First winter with the AGP. (In case it’s not in my signature, Intex 16x32.) I lowered the water to below the in and out ports, disconnected all hoses, etc. It came with a debris cover, but it seems flimsy. Should I remove that and instead cover it with a heavier-duty cover? Is it ok to “tent” the cover to help with remaining leaves? If not, is a pillow of some sort necessary? If so can a regular pool raft suffice? Anything else I should be asking?

You've got the right ideas. Its your call if you want to deal with a heavier cover.
Yes many folks do tent their covers with large inflated balls or "pillows", best tied in place so they remain in the center of the pool.
