Why Do Filter Pressure Gauges Go to 60 PSI?

I bet you will drop 5# if not more if your flow is significantly slower. Even with 'fatigue' I am guessing accuracy would only be slightly affected and not enough to change how we manage the pool. Congrats on the house. My pool came with one of those too!

Mas985, our pump and hydraulics guru, reports that pool pumps do not get over 35 psi and that would be a complete blockage of the pump.

Factory gauges mostly are cheap and go all the way to 60 because somebody didn't think it through, IMO. The 30 psi liquid filled are a true step up....larger, more precise, freeze-protect to -4 F.

I think the only reported psi in excess of 30 here on the forum is because the gauge was broken.

You are right on about the gauge you have on TFTESTKITS, Dave. I received mine yesterday and looking at the picture of it on the website I didn't think it looked any bigger than my old one. It's not only bigger and brighter, it also much easier to read than the old 60 pounder. I can see what my pressure is from inside the pool. Now I don't have to walk up and put on the readers to see if it's backwash time. Since I'm running a sand filter and not a steam engine this gauge is perfect for me. ( gee, I wonder if I'll ever need the freeze protection here in balmy Missouri in January ?)
