white flex strip

I have a Pentair 222 manual vacuum. The white flex strip is deteriorating. I do have a new one to replace it. My question is what is the best way to remove the old one and put on the new one? It is in there very tight.

Also regarding thermometers, I have read some threads about them, but I cannot seem to buy one that is any good for a long period of time. Any recommendations? thanks.

Those things are a pain to get off
Just clean the grooves where the strips are and re apply
It will work okay without them not ideal but sometimes the grooves are damaged
and you cant get it back on
