White dull scale above water line.

I have a fiberglass pool, only 2 to 3 years old and it has become very dull and chalky looking above the water line. I performed a calcium removal treatment last October which required the water level to be higher.
Now the water level has returned to normal and above the water line up to the top looks horrible and seems to be getting worse. Any ideas what this is, cause, and how to remove?
We (me and my pool guy), are brushing, using abrasive scrub pads, and spray on cleaners. Nothing seems to work and a new pool should have the shiny blue finish still intact. thx

Yeah, some of us seem to have drawn a bad card when it comes to gelcoats. No good answer I'm afraid. I wouldn't exhaust yourself with specialty chemical products ($$$) or costly manhours of elbow grease scrubbing or even sanding. It will probably just go back to the chalky look I'm afraid.

Thanks. Not what I wanted to hear but I will keep trying. I am just wondering having the pool so full during the Calcium removal treatment caused deposits on the walls. I was adding granular TA increaser everyday to get the levels back up and NOW I read always dilute in water first before adding directly to fiberglass pools or it can cause calcium buildup on walls. Dammit! Where does this end?

Aussies seem to have more history and be the experts on FB pools. US office is in Salt Lake.

You would have to be adding large quantities of baking soda at once to make that happen.

How much is a large quantity?

Many pounds. Or you were adding it unnecessarily. TA above 50 ppm is fine.

Not pounds. I did around 4 cups trying to get it above 80. 80 to 110 is everything I have read. 50 is new to me

At those levels of TA, you add a lot of acid followed by baking soda. The TA hamster wheel. Pool store.

Yeah, I don’t know about all of that, I was following directions after a calcium removal treatment to get TA restored and stable. Added a cup every day. I think this stuff is just baking soda
