My pool has high CA levels (500) which I have been able to maintain all summer with no scaling. I have had the pool for a year, previous owner did not use TFP and had a history of scale. Most of the summer my CSI has been in the .4-.5 range. Now that fall is upon us the pool temp is dropping, and the CSI is down to about 0. The last two times I have opened up the pump there have been small white "chips" in the basket. Last time there was one large one, big enough that I could see the overall shape was very similar to the inside of a pipe. I tossed the chip in vinegar, and it dissolved in a few minutes.
Are the chips old calcium scale buildup that is being loosened and removed due to the low CSI?
