My local pool store sells bioguard pool chemicals. My first year owning the pool (last year) i bought all the bioguard products, it worked well but was a little pricey. What pool chemical brands are you guys using? Specifically chorine, is bioguard silk chlorine tablets and burnout shocks worth their price? Or are there other options that I should look into.

I'm not up to that much typing, so I'll refer you to some articles that hopefully answer your questions.

After you review those links, please feel free to ask follow-up questions. Bottom line is that we don't recommend hardly any actual pool chemicals you would find in a pool store

“Hardly any” means anything other than liquid chlorine and/or muriatic acid. Pool stores normally sell the highest concentration percentages of those two chemicals. However, other sources may be more economical (lower price) and also lower concentration percentage.

My chemical list: cyanuric acid (Puri Tech brand on Amazon) $2/pound. 6% bleach (Walmart) $1.77/gal (price differs by area). 20 mule team borax (Walmart) $4.47/65 oz box. Muriac acid (Lowes) $9.98. Baking soda (Walmart) $0.50/lb. Snow Joe Melt calcium chloride pellet (Walmart online) $28/50 pounds (you might not need calcium). Back up reagents for my test kit. Clorox Pool&Spa DE pool filter aid (Lowes) $1/pound. I don't use tabs/pucks/dry chlorine/cal hypo/shock/algacide/flock/clarifier and have not had any need for sequestrants.. You may want to get the CYA standard to help you learn the CYA test. It is the most difficult test to perform. I'd buy liquid chlorine from the pool store, but it's more than the Walmart bleach here. Depends on your area. You might be able to get bleach from a supply house that caters to pressure washing businesses.

You don't really need anything else and may not need all of this.
