I've been using tri ...
Can I switch to Ch?

Whichever you use will jack the appropriate level. If using CYA laced trichlor, the CYA will rise to an unmanageable level. Or the same for Calcium from the Cal-hypo.

The only way to lower either level quickly once they're jacked is to drain.

Neither should be used blindly as they add other things to your pool. Cal-hypo adds chlorine and calcium, which leads to the white scaling, especially around the waterline tile. Trichlor adds CYA/stabilizer which raises your required chlorine level to be able to properly sanitize.

Liquid is the safe bet since it just adds chlorine to your pool.

Also, never mix and match trichlor and calhypo in any sort of chlorinator or container as even the residue can react with each other and cause an explosion.
