Ok so I havent had a pool for a couple years and love the idea of the BBB method. My ground is almost level doing it alone. I want to put up my pool in a few days. I read all the getting started and have been reading posts for a few weeks now.
My first question is What is the first chemical that i need to get correct? Sounds like CYA. and maybe next PH and then I can get the FC? What are the steps to first take after testing all the numbers. I will be buying the 6way test kit at Walmart. Hope they have it in stock.
My other question is exactly what stabilizer should I be buying at Home Depot or Lowes?
Not sure if I will be taking the pool down in winter or closing it yet we will see. BTW this site is awesome!!!

 Welcome to TFP!!!

The 6-way Walmart test is ... ok. Proper maintenance of the FC is more difficult. If you could swing the TF-100, that would make things easier for you.

When you fill, there is not really a required order to adjusting. You want to get it all done at the same time. You will start the CYA dissolving in a sock right away and add 2ppm of FC right away (since you know both will be 0 to start with). Then you will want to test the pH and TA to see if any adjustment is needed to them.

You want to buy stabilizer (which Walmart has too) that is near 100% cyanuric acid.

tftestkits.net sells the TF-100 I think they also added it to Amazon recently.

PoolMath will tell you how much bleach you have to add to reach your targets. A typical pool requires 2-4ppm of FC added each day. The amount you need depends on the strength of the bleach you use. Guessing you will need around 2 of the 121oz bottles of 8.25% bleach that is typical in grocery stores / Walmart.

I cant seem to find % on any bleach bottles. I even tried to go online and look up msds facts. Im trying to find the most economical bleach from local stores like 99 cents store, dollar tree, walmart or food 4 less. I want to be able to purchase and know the % so that it can be quickly input to pool math calculator. The only 1 i was able to find is regular clorox bleach "5-10% exact amount hidden for trade secret" my question is. Is there a list of % of bleach name/ brands and numbers somewhere? Or maybe a suggestion of name/brand % and place u purchase most economical bleach. Thanks for all your help. TFP is the best
