Where to Point Returns?

What is the prevailing wind direction?

You want to create a 'toilet bowl' effect with the returns. Push the surface debris in a pattern, using the prevailing wind as a guide, to the skimmers. The wind direction will overwhelm the effect from the returns, so it must be worked with.

Most often it's toward the deep end. (But our backyard is kind of a bowl so sometimes it's all over the place)

I now see the autocover, so you will likely get very little surface debris on the pool.

I would point the near return towards the stairs, and the far return towards the far wall. See how that does.

If you’ve got any rubber duckies or ping pong balls throw them in & see where they go, if they get stuck somewhere, how long it takes them to reach the skimmers etc. with each adjustment. I use my floating pool thermometer to help me adjust sometimes.
