What’s your daily FC loss?

My average since 6/10/2017 is 2.5 though that's somewhat inflated since I don't test daily during the Winter; the number is based on days not tests vs days. Additionally, that's with a normal CYA of 30-40 but it dropped to zero sometime after 10/24/2017 which would increase FC loss.

Mine is now down to 5%, 0.5ppm per day.

cya 80 and losing light as we go into winter.

im wondering if I really need my CYa up around 80. My chlorinator only needs to be on ~10% throttle in winter, and 30-40% in summer.

Each SWG has a finite life and is based on the number of hours you run. This translates to the total ppm a cell will make. The more you run it, you use up the life quicker. Running 10% for 10 hours is the same as 100% for 1 hour both in FC production and cell life use. Running 20% for 10 hours makes 2x the FC and uses 2x the life

what do u mean by this? Just wondering cause I’m going to be turning my salt on for the first time next week.

The SWG cell has a finite life - like a light bulb -and will eventually burn out. So the less you use it, the longer it lasts. Hence the recommendation to keep CYA higher when running SWG pool - it reduce the rate at which chlorine is lost, meaning you don't need to run the SWG as long each day.

Here's an older thread on it:

Why high CYA is a good thing with a SWG

That low SWG % is due to the higher CYA. The less you use the SWG, the longer it will last. Keep it up for now

I'll leave it. The FC loss rate just seems so low. As soon as I touch the throttle I seem to send the FC up too high. I'm going to let it drift to 6 and try again with throttle ~10% and reduce the time it's on.

my bad! i thought u meant FC will last longer. lol

CYA currently at 50, water at about 80 degrees, ambient temps not as high (yet) as we're used to - still in mid 80s. I lose ~ 2ppm FC in 24 hrs. I expect very soon that demand will grow to where I may need to increase my CYA to 60. The South Texas sun can be brutal. :sun:
