Hi all,

I'm closing my pool on my own for the first time, so I'm just making sure I'm doing everything correctly.

When using the main drain to lower the water level, am I correct that I should have the 3-way valve that's by the main drain line (see picture below) with the OFF section in the 6 o'clock position? What should the valve for the spa drain be positioned at? Leave it be as it is in the picture? (the OFF section is at the 3 o'clock position, when the pool is running as normal in pool mode). Or should it be in another position? I wasn't sure if I should be draining the spa as well (maybe it depends on my question below)...

When I drain the water level down, is it just personal preference as far as draining just below the skimmers vs. draining below the returns? I'm going to blow out all the lines, so it doesn't really matter, right?

Here's a picture of the valves as they are when the pool is running:

Never mind - I'm good to go. I figured it out for myself - ended up realizing that there's a switch on the underside of the actuator valve that once you flip to the opposite setting will make the valve switch to the opposite position, which enabled me to drain the spa. So I drained the spa 4" below the spa returns, and then a drained the pool 4" below the pool returns.

Your main drain valve should be closed to lock air in the system. It appears to be open. The other side (Solar Recirc System) valve is closed. Did you blow out the main drain?

That picture was before I started blowing the lines out. I was just giving a picture to show what the valve setup was prior to starting the closing process. I think i figured it all out though, as yes, I did blow out the main drain. I went through the hole system and was able to get all the lines to blow and closed them off one by one.

I didn't do anything with the Solar Recirc valve though - should I have? (I left it the way that it was in the picture I provided) Everything seemed to blow all the water out (all the equipment and all the returns).

If the water was removed from that area during the closing from other areas, then you do to not need to do anything. It appears that the system is tied into each other, so you will be fine.
