I am having a hard time reading the pH scale. It seems like the color is never quite right. I am assuming in this case I am either off-scale or overthinking the color match. What's this look like?

Use your thumbs to block off above and below what you want to compare. I find yes/no to be way easier than best of 3.

For example :

Higher than 7.8

Lower than 8.2

What is your FC?
If FC >10 the pH test is invalid.

How many drops of pH reagent did you use?
If you used 5 drops, try 4 drops and see if it's easier for you to read.

FC is 10.5. I used 5 drops. I'll try 4 drops next time. Thanks. I'm getting ready to add ~32 more oz of muriatic acid.

A consistent background is key. To get good backlighting, hold the block in front of your computer monitor/tablet/phone with a blank white screen displayed. Also, try holding the block sideways or upside down. Sometimes that helps distinguish colors better. I also use two old hotel keycards to mask off areas and narrow down my decision.

7.8

Any pH in the 7's is ok. It is not 8.2 and it is not 7.2. So pH is fine.
