What kind of piping/connection is this?

My wife's father's brother reached out to me asking if I could fix a leak he is having. Don't have much to go on, could be a bad a O ring or seal but I don't recognize this type of piping/connection.

I use standard PVC at my pool and this looks like something that would be sold as a part of a whole system and is OEM.

Like I said, don't have much information, but wondering if anyone recognizes this? Not sure why there is putty all over it.

Has leaks on multiple seals so it might just need to be disconnected and reconnected. Just not sure if it's a seated seal or an O ring etc.

Not sure I have ever seen a tapered pipe. What is the filter (I think that is what it is?) connecting to? Can the pieces be spaced out so that you can use standardized fittings/connections?

Oops you're right. On my phone.

99% sure it's an install issue just not sure what the sealing method is on those connections given the tapered pipe.
That's a broken Hayward MPV. Notice the taper in the picture at the bottom of the valve piping. Its not something that can be repaired as it is a part of the whole valve assembly. Sorry.

Here to learn.. Where is it broken??

What am I not seeing??

Thanks,

Apparently under all that epoxy/caulk/? on the upper portion of the pipe at the valve body (outlet of the tank if D.E.). Don't know any other reason for all that goop.
If all that was removed, it might able to be sealed with Plast-Aid. If its cracked, new MPV time is the best option.

That makes sense, I have never seen a non top mounted valve before. Had them send me another picture and you are correct.

Will take a drive out to confirm it's actually broken and not incorrectly tightened. Going to TFP school has its pluses and minuses (I guess I'm the family pool expert now)

Can only imagine the rabbit holes I'll end up down.

Replaced the sand filter with a top mount hayward and had to replumb the entire thing.

Don't know if I'll get hate here for the overuse of primer/glue but it holds They're back up and running.

I wanted to move the pump to cut down on the 90s but they wanted me to keep it where it was. Not much space back there.

The purple will disappear after a while, but it is always good to paint the pipes anyway.

The only concern is your fittings look like DWV and not schedule 40. DWV is not pressure rated. The recommended test is 10 feet of hydrostatic pressure which equals about 4.3 PSI. I got tagged on this when I first did mine as well so don't feel bad and I still have some in my setup but do plan on changing it out one of these days, weeks, months, years...

Interesting. I'll look into it. I have the receipt from lowes, I'll take a look and see what I have. Wasn't aware.

Did my own pool about 5 or 6 years ago with same fittings so hopefully it holds forever I suppose.
