What is this thing?

I was watching some videos on testing salt levels.
I ran across this one:

At about 1:16, he pulls out this thing and places it in the graduated cylinder.
It appears that any amount above 10ml over runs the top of the cylinder, therefore, leaving 10 ml as the start of the test.
Anyone know what the thing is he is putting in the cylinder?
I suspect it is "calibrated" to leave a specific amount of fluid in the graduated cylinder depending on the volume of the thing and the volume of the cylinder.

Just thought it was a cool toy.
May want to get one or two.

Or you could go to the pharmacy and ask for a 10ml syringe for giving little kids liquid medicine. Many times, they will give you one for free.

Amazon also has a four pack of 50ml syringes for about $10.

The Taylor sample sizer only works in Taylor test vials. As I recall, they don't work with the TFTestkit vials.
Using a syringe is much less messy also.

As for the SpeedStir or SmarStir - get one. It makes testing so much easier, consistent and repeatable. I wouldn't be without mine.

Thanks for all the replies.
I have a SpeedStir (See signature) and use it religiously. This is my 2nd SpeedStir. #1 dies a miserable death when the battery compartment screws rusted.
I have a 10ml syringe. However, it appears the volume differs from the syringe and the TFTest vials.
@proavia GREAT info that is is incompatible with TFTestkits. Guess that is the important part!

I bought the sample sizer and the compatible Taylor vials. Its easy to use and speeds up my testing. Been very happy with it. I use a syringe for CYA testing to make sure I get equal parts water and CYA reagent.

This ONLY works with the TAYLOR 9198 VIALS, not the ones that come in the TFT-100. You can get them at tftestkits.net.

Get one it, will be you second best friend after the speedstir.

Correct, they don’t. I personally prefer them over the syringes though as I find them less fiddley myself. They leave the exact amount of water in the vile every time.
