What is the proper way to dispose of this mixture?

Just getting started using these to test salt. For other tests I usually just dump the 15 mils or so in the pool, but these reagents seems particularly nasty.

Great kit. And the smart stir is almost a requirement for the salt test. GREAT CHOICE.

Never dump ANY reagents/test result water into the pool. Drain only.

First rule of Pool Club: Know what you are adding to your pool and why. If you don't know what it is, and why you are adding it, don't put it in the pool.

I usually just cover top with my fingers to hold my pill/cross in and empty it out in the rocks by my pool then dunk the vial with pill/cross and shake it then empty that between fingers & put it away

If you do that with the mixture above your fingers will be black for a few days. Gotta wear gloves with that test or you look like the bag of money had a dye pack in it.

Any contaminates ultimately reach groundwater somewhere. Be good stewards.

Better to have it go through the municipal sewage system and be handled properly. Please use the sanitary system.

Lol pretty sure groundwater isn't a concern for me & with our sun it would evaporate before it could soak through my rocks

The water may evaporate, but the chromium and silver chloride residuals will enter whatever watershed you live in...be a steward.

You will see "professional" pool boys dump used reagents into the pool. They don't have a good place to dump them, but you do. Down the drain of the nearest sink which you use to rinse out the vials. Not into the environment.

This is an interesting conversation. What about people with a septic tank? I dump it down the drain and it goes to the septic tank then into my yard. I guess that is still better than in the rocks around the pool because it gets diluted in the septic tank first?

My GUESS is that for the salt test, the silver chloride precipitate will likely settle in the septic and won't get to the effluent. Likely not true for the other tests...
