What happened to my LED board

Finally got around to looking into why my main LED light doesn’t work.

It’s a Jandy Watercolors 120V.

What do you make of the pics? Doesn’t appear to be water damage to me.

That is one burned board. Power surge from lightning in the area? Your signature doesn't list any other electronic parts that may have been damaged from something like that.

Lightning is possible. We had one hit real close. Have had Electronic components in the house affected. Pool is older. No automation or fancy components.

Do you think just popping a new board in there would give me some good years with a light? Costly but paying for just the part.

While I have always been a fix before replace repair guy, I have never been a fan of any brands color LED lights. To me the cost is outweighed by the short lives they have. The novelty of colors wears off quickly in most cases. I always did my best to try to talk a customer out of them, its not always about the money. If I get a call back I want it to be because they were happy with what was done and trust I will take care of the next issue.

A standard Amerilight with 50' cord is about $370.00 at Leslies. It should fit the light niche in your pool.

If you want colors, you can get an LED bulb that has color changing ability for as little as $75.00 and up. J&J Electronics and BlueSquare make very good, though more expensive bulbs.

If you replace the whole assembly and install a color LED bulb (with a silicone gasket for about $20.00) you will be money ahead of taking the chance that the rather expensive board for your existing light will work and last. Just my opinion.
