What did you do to your pool today?

I took a morning stroll around the pool with a cup of coffee and searched for signs of life in the garden. We way not have actually killed everything during construction!!

I had a purple lantana that got buried under a pile of dirt when the backyard was landscaped. It sat completely buried for months. After the final clean up when that dirt pile was removed, the lantana was nothing but a knot of dead brown branches and I cut it all back to ground. Sure enough, the next spring, it started pushing out new shoots from the root base and it is now the largest and healthiest plant in the yard.

"The flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of all."

Nothing about Mulan, the greatest Disney movie ever made, is cheesy!

Yeah, I have to say they really nailed it with Eddie Murphy doing the voice-over for Mushu!! One of their better films for sure.

Interesting that you have caliche over there. I didn't know it went that far over. You have caliche and red clay and we have caliche and black clay.

Water was 64 yesterday and I did NOT jump in.

Scooped a few leaves. Turned on the Solartouch, solar temp was 101. Added 1/2 a gallon of acid because there is apparently no stopping my PH rise. Added 1 gallon of bleach. It'll be time to turn the SWG back on soon. I usually wait until the temp is consistently above 70.

I think crazy is the proper word Patrick! Man I was burning up from all the work I had been doing, and needed a cool down quick! It worked too!

The pollen hasn't started yet here, but I expect it to in the next week or 2. Right now, Im scooping out millions of whatever sort of seeds are being blown into the pool daily. They are very good at clogging up the skimmer basket!

Good luck with your netting and skimming!

You're either braver, or crazier than me Dave, no way pal! Brrrrrrr!!!!!

Since I left my cover off I'll be joining in the all the fun with you pollen/tassel people this year. I didn't want you suffering without me, and my trees are just budding out. Woohooo!

Removed a frog from the pool. Kept it open all winter, pump on same schedule and no changes to cleaning schedule. With this mild winter we had I'm anticipating swimming to start later this month. Pool is already staying over 50 even through the night.

Red sand DV, no clay around here. You must have been here when it rained once. :) Caliche is all over this dadburn state!

Good for you Beader! :goodjob:

Crazy alright Dave and thanks. If it's a nightmare Im blaming you for inspiring me to do it. :)

Pumped lots of water off the cover..I stuck my hand through the skimmer hole..the ice has receded quite a bit off the edges.. We reached 70 today in Northern Illinois.. much above warmer temps for the spring.. does that mean I will have to open eairlier this year?

Yep, most everyone should be this year it looks like. With ice in the pool you still have some time no worries, but don't wait too long.

Had to have both of my boards replaced on my Aqua Rite SWG...arrrggghhh. The bad news, the unit is only 2.5 years old...the good news, it was still under warranty so only had to pay a service call. I asked if this is something I should be concerned about having to do frequently and he said the harsh marine environment doesn't do the electronics any favors, but he didn't think that was the sole reason they both failed. He said Hayward has made some improvements by including a relay in the surge protection. Here's hoping.

Cleaned the ever-present tree leaves/blooms from the pool and brushed entire pool surface to clear/filter runoff debris from this week's storms. Desperately awaiting the arrival of a new Polaris 360 that will succeed my older one that finally gave it up after many years (at least 10) of service. With the wind kicking up and "conveniently" blowing from the direction of the two trees nearest the pool, one in my front yard and another in the neighbors front yard. I'm constantly amazed on how much of that stuff from the front yard clears a 2-story house with tall roof peaks and finds its way into the pool in the back yard. I don't even want to think what it would be like if I had trees in the backyard. It looks like I will be out there several times today repeating this process. Yesterday, there were so many of the while blooms blowing off from the neighbors Bradford Pear tree that it looked like it was snowing. In between, I will at least be near the pool as I'm working on another backyard project...the annual tune-up and deep-cleaning of the grills.

We had a wicked little thunderstorm over our street, which ripped big branches off gum trees and dumped a few smaller ones in the pool, along with more leaves, caterpillars and miscellaneous bugs than I've seen before. So, since I've been thinking about learning first-hand what it's like to do a SLAM - off I go...

Our neighbour's professionally installed solar pool heating is laying in their front yard complete with a bunch of roof tiles, so I climbed up on our roof to check my DIY install. All good on mine and State Emergency Services were up on the neighbour's patching the holes in their roof and removing the remaining loose bits of solar. I was glad I installed all the wind loading bits and bobs! Hopefully their installer will make good on theirs.
