What determines whether you get green vs yellow/mustard algae?

Curious what causes each.

not sure but i think sunlight plays a big role. green algae seems to pop up more in sunny spots while yellow might prefer shade? just my observation tho

Mostly just whatever gets in the water from the environment.

Algae of different types is constantly being introduced and it tries to survive and reproduce.

Rain, wind, dirt etc. are constantly introducing bacteria, algae etc. into the water.
