First time pool owner and I am having trouble with Algae but not overly bad. It appears on the steps and sides of my 15,000 gal pool. It is in full sun majority of the day and I live in a desert-like climate. We are above 100F these past 2 weeks.
I seem to be getting a lot of evaporation from the full sun so I add water about every 3/4 days. I think the sun eats up a lot of my Chlorine as well which is why I am getting this minimal algae problem but I seem to be dumping chlorine (1 Gal Bleach) in every other day.
Ok. So here is where I am currently at.

CYA - About 30, maybe a touch less I could just barely see the dot but the tube is only so big.
FC - 8ppm (as of this morning) had it at 12ppm last night for the Algae SLAM

PH and TA and all the like were in an ideal range before I slammed yesterday.

This morning I brushed the pool again and saw no algae or green at all. Is my SLAM done?
Should I continue for an extra day to make sure?
I have a Polaris 280 sweep and the bag attachment seems to have algae on it, do I need a new bag or is this salvageable and will be fixed in the SLAM? This morning it looked better but the only thing “algaefide” left in the pool.

As far as water evaporation I think during the summer months, this is just how it is but as far as the sun eating up my chlorine, do you recommend tablets instead of liquid bleach?
I heard of pool conditioner to help keep chlorine from the sun, would you recommend this for me, does it work? Or should I just keep adding chlorine as I am and that’s just how it is? Any advice for helping the chlorine stay in longer would be appreciated.

Also I have the Taylor 2016 teat kit, if this helps.

I hope I gave enough information. Thanks in advanced.

Welcome to TFP! Okay, so you ID'd algae and appeared to attempt the SLAM Process. It's done when you pass all 3 SLAM criteria which are: Crystal clear water, cc reading of 0.5 or less, and passing the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test. Of course visibly seeing no algae is automatic. So if you pass all 3 SLAM criteria, then yes, you are done. But if you skipped one of those, I would maintain the elevated SLAM FC level as noted on the FC/CYA Levels based on your current CYA. Once you pass the SLAM, then I would take the CYA up to at least 50. In SAC, you might even go up to 60 for UV protection from the sun for your chlorine. But always be sure to go back to the FC/CYA Levels to confirm. Hope that helps.
