I got this pump with my new pool and auto cover. Either I am using it wrong or it stinks. Its probably the former...hence why I asking. The thing refuses to actually start pumping. It will rain all day/night and if I don't go out there and jiggle it some or perform some other voodoo manipulations it just won't pump. I can see it trying to pump. I have let it literally get nearly submerged to see if I was being too impatient with it but I don't think I am. I am wondering if my hose is too long? Is there a specific length? I have checked for any blockages etc and everything is clean. When it works, it works great! I am going away for a week in june and I am planning on leaving the cover pump on or having my mother in law come and pump off the cover if it rains but this has been too unreliable so far for my tastes. Thanks for any advice you may have.

I don't have the same cover pump (ours is a Little Giant) but two things come to mind. One is that the float inside is not moving freely and catching on something. If you can open it up and take a look inside for any restriction, maybe a burr on plastic or something. The second idea is that for our pump, people had issues with airlock. I suspect this is universal with submersible pumps. But it manifests as the pump running but not pumping so it may not be your issue.

Otherwise googling solutions for your specific pump may lead to videos or other helpful information before returning or getting something new.

Ours was a little finicky at first like yours, but I tried a few things ( don't remember details now) and it has had no Issues for years.
