I picked up 2 cmp brilliant wonders led lights that screw into a common return. Cmp sells a water stop "winterizing" fitting but too late for that. People have told me that it's not necessary to have a water stop, but I can't get past the logic of what happens to all of that pool water when you unscrew and pull the light from the return fitting to change it. It's just going to flood the pipe with the wire in it. Am I missing something?

It's just going to flood the pipe with the wire in it. The light in the fitting will be surrounded by water to cool it, even LED lights get hot.
An ordinary pool light conduit is flooded at all times with the light cord in it. No issues as long as the termination is above pool water level (generally at least 12" for surge).

Thanks for this. It was tough to wrap my head around this one, since all of my electrical experience is from when I used to do residential construction. Wire sitting in water = bad. Pulled the wires last night and will put the lights in today.
