Water spraying out of Hayward Multiport Valve

Hello,
5 year old Hayward Multiport Valve SP0714C. These settings work - drain, backwash, rinse, and recirculate - except for Filter. When I stop the pump and set to filter, water shoots out from the seam between the valve and the neck of the filter. I removed the valve and checked the gasket ... it's secure and no abnormal wear & tear (although I'm no expert). The valve housing rotates fine - I lubricated the rubber washers & spring (silicon-based lube) in any case. I'm thinking the water is having trouble travelling through the filter ... maybe clogged sand. I removed the valve altogether and checked the sand ... noticed some green (I'm still opening the pool). I opened the filter drain plug and to my surprise the water was only trickling out ... was expecting a good stream.

The photo shows where the water shoots out and I mean shoot.

Thanks in advance for any help/tips.

Water will only trickle from the drain. There's very little in the filter and it has to go through all the sand to get to the bottom.
Unless there is damage, a new O ring for the valve and then the clamp securely tightened should stop the leak.

When i opened the filter the sand was full of vegetation so I ended up doing a deep clean. Pulled all the sand out (approx 300lbs) and rinsed it well enough. Now it runs well. This is year 22 and I've never had so much trouble opening a pool as this year. I let my sons (19 & 16) take a crack at it end of April (regretting that decisions but i was away), and we're in mid June and I'm still fighting an algae bloom. 2nd time i'm shocking so far ...started wednesday.
pH was set to 7.4 before i started. FC is about 8ppm Wed, Thu and still today.

Still not seeing the usual change in hue from deep green to light green-blue.IMG_9578.JPG
