Water Seeping Into Pool From The Outside

Yes. Gunite is NOT waterproof. The plaster is what makes the waterproof seal.

I would say though that you have a large amount of ground water where you are and you should make sure that if your pool has main drains that there is a hydrostatic valve in place should you ever need to drain the pool. Having dry wells near the pool with submersible pumps would be useful for dewatering.

KCD,

It is called "weeping" and somewhat common when there is water behind the gunite. Most plaster companies will not plaster if the weeping is too bad. Took me about 4 months to solve my weeping problem.

The right solution is to divert the water that is behind the gunite to go somewhere else. You can't block it, it must be re-routed or removed.

In my case, I have a sump pump that runs 24/7, even in the hottest Texas days, that pumps the water out. Unknow to anyone at the time, my pool was built in the middle of a small underground creek. Sigh!

Thanks,

Jim R.

For the stubs, they will fill back in the cut recesses prior to plastering. My new shell had 1/2 dozen weep holes cut in the bottom going to earth as well to keep it down before plastering and filling. We are coastal with ground water during wet times, but the weeping dried up after they sealed the cut recesses.
