Water leak when pump is on - how to locate leak location

My inground gunite pool has a water leak of about 2" per day. When the water level was just below the skimmer mouth I turned the pump off and the water level stayed there for over 7 days so I thought the leak was at the skimmer mouth. I decided to turn the pump on today and balance the chemicals, turned the valve to only suction from the wall vacuum and the bottom drains, and the water level started lowering like before. Now the water level is about 2" below the skimmer mouth, so now assume the leak is in the plumbing somewhere. Now is my only option to hire a leak detection company to pinpoint the actual leak?

Post a few pictures of your equipment pad and all valves. The the valves in the position they are in (don't change them for the picture).

When we noticed the water level going down I had the valve set so water was partly going from the vacuum, the skimmer, and the bottom drains, but after the level went down near the bottom of the skimmer I set it like you see it now - I shut off the skimmer so air wouldn't be sucked in there.

I bought a ~$100 remote camera. Waste of money.

$300 leak detection company found it in an hour.

Likely your most efficient solution at this point.

BB,

It seems to me that you have eliminated the suction side, skimmer, and the pool light as the problem..

On the Return side, you have a Jandy valve with no handle.. Where do the two output lines go?

You have eliminated where most leaks occur, and finding a leak underground, and most likely under concrete, will be almost impossible to do without the right equipment and expertise.

Sorry,

Jim R.

If you don't see water leaking above ground, it is likely underground in the return lines, based on what you describe. Try Valley Leak Detection.
