Water Feature Pump losing Prime after shut off

I have a water feature pump that runs a waterfall and deck jets, when I turn the pump on it takes about 1 min for it to get water flowing and up to normal prime. when I turn the pump off it loses prime within 20-30 min. This pump pulls water from the main drain and returns water directly to the waterfall and jets (does not go through the filter). I am speculating that the because air can come in via the jets and waterfall it is allowing the water to fall back into the pool. I have considered doing a check valve on the pump outlet to prevent the loss of pressure from the waterfall or jets.

Curious to know what the pros think ;)

K,

I assume this is a new install, or it never held water overnight. Your assumption about air getting into the system is correct. A check valve either on the pressure side or the suction side would both work.

Thanks,

Jim R.
