Hi everybody. So right now I have a gunite pool shell that is still waiting for plaster. We actually had an appointment to do plaster about a week and a half ago and the plaster crew came out and cleaned the pool and cut all the pipe stubs … and then apparently they had some issues with their equipment and had to call it off so I was left with the same gunite shell with no plaster, but pipe stubs were all cut.

Anyways, today I noticed that the two drain pipes in the deep end are both filled with water and its spilled out enough to fill the dip around the pipe. It doesn’t seem like any more water is still continuously flowing out, but the pipes are basically filled to the brim with water. The last time I checked two or three days ago, everything was still totally dry.

There hasn’t been any rain at all recently and nobody has sprayed or added any water into the pool for a long time, so I’m a bit confused and concerned where this water may be coming from.

The pump was installed a while back and has never run, but I see a bunch of condensation under the cover as well (attached a picture). Although that condensation has been there for many weeks at least.

I’m wondering if this may indicate some kind of leak or issue with the plumbing? Has anybody seen anything like this and know what may be happening?

Thanks!

The plumbing may have been pressure tested with water in it. It is safer pressure testing with water then just air. It is likely that is where the moisture is coming from.

I would not worry about it.

Ditto comments above. Did you see the pressure test rig(s) on the pool? This is where they have a gauge and valve to fill with water then pressure up with air. Usually the building department inspector will have to verify the pressure held for at least 24 hrs. If this hasn't been done your jurisdiction may allow the builder to self test. But it needs to be done before gunite. Also, make sure they cover the pipe stubs before gunite. I can't tell where all the pipe stubs are but the dished area should be full of hydraulic cement to make the primary seal around the pipe penetration... sometimes they have to leave a little room in the spa dished areas for the jets to make up for spa piping that's a little off. Do you know what kind of jet housings they will be using in the spa?

Hope this is helpful.
