Volley Ball court or Horseshoe pit

Ok. Thanks, Zea3. My discharge pressure gage is only incremented in 1 psi. I NEVER see a rise of more than 1-2 psi. But, I think you are right about the daily backwashes now that the pool is clear. I will probably backwash every 3 days now, and increase the span dependent upon the results.
When I first started my "relationship" with you folks here a TFP, I read about raising Ph by aeration. So, as an experiment, I turned my "eyeball" up to break the surface of the water(I had it turned down trying to "wash" the debris from the bottom). Sure enough, the next day, I saw an increase in Ph. I don't understand how that works. How could aeration make the water more Alkaline?

Dave,

Sorry I'm late to this thread, but I just caught up and see that congratulations are in order. Way to stick it out. As for aerating the water, I don't have any eyeballs I can turn up to create bubbles breaking the surface, so I came up with my own contraption to accomplish the same feat.

Aerating is the only way to raise pH without affecting TA at the same time. Adding chemicals either lowers them both or raises them both at the same time.

Dave, you may find that your filter only needs backwashing once or twice a season if you keep the pool clear. A slightly dirty filter cleans better than a freshly cleaned one, and the water you lose while backwashing needs replacing when it gets too low.

When you close your pool for the winter, give it a good long backwash and rinse and then drain the filter. In the spring you rinse it again before setting it to filter and you should be set for the season!

No, you don't have to change the sand at all. The only times we recommend removing the sand is to check for damage to the laterals and stand pipe. It can be stored for the winter with the sand intact once all the water is drained out.

Ok. Thanks. That will save me some time. What's your opinion about the motor/plastic components? Should I just leave everything in place ensuring all the water is drained. We do get below freezing temps here in NC and I would be concerned about how the plastic components would hold up like the multiport. I am working to install a deck and will eventually be moving the pump/filter unit to the outer edge of the deck and hard pipe it with PVC.

At the end of the season, I backwash and rinse my filter really well. I drain the water below the skimmer (might be an AGP-only thing) and plug my return fitting. Then I drain my plumbing and take the pump to the basement. For the filter, I set my multiport valve to the Winter position and open the drain plug near the bottom. My sand doesn't get touched.

Good Morning, all. Sorry it has been so long since logging in. Work has kept me busy(worked the 4th weekend:(). The pool CONTINUES to be clear!! I add 1 gal of bleach a week(depending on use). I had a chance yesterday to get in and vacuum and this morning the water is sparkling!! My only regret is that I didn't know about this website last year. That way, I wouldn't have the stains on my floor from that granulated stuff the pool store/Walmart sold me. I don't think I will change the liner over it since I can't see it when I am floating around enjoying a refreshing drink(read THAT to say Beer)! Hopefully this thread will help someone else who is thinking about a volleyball court......
