Vinyl Liner replacement while leaving original vinyl floor area in place...?

I was wondering what peoples opinions are on the subject of replacing an above ground vinyl liner, while leaving the original bottom layer intact and not removing...? Considering there is no issues with the original bottom having zero wrinkles, bumps or footprints while installing new liner over top, would there be any reason not to leave original bottom in place? Some say they find it easier to spread the new liner flooring out while filling due to it having less friction than sand. While also adding, leaving the underlaying sand layer intact, eliminates the need to smooth out for new install.
Has anyone ever done this? Is there any issues that would arrise with vinyl to vinyl conatact over time causing degration or wrinkles?

No, no and no. First, you use vacuums to pull a new liner tight before filling, turning the vacuums off allows for adjustments to remove wrinkles. Wrinkles, even minor, that are not smoothed out become worse after the fill starts. Plus once water goes into the pool, that new liner is slippery than you would believe.

Maybe, maybe not. The original installer was likely more delicate getting out than you'll be pounding around to cut it all.

But I wouldn’t for mold and mildew. Some liners will show dark spots/areas through them and you won't know about yours until it's too late.
