Hi. My unground pool is heavy with algae. I cannot even see the bottom of the pool. I just learned I should be vacuuming to waste but how can I without a multiport valve?

What test kit are you using? The recommended kits are the Taylor 2006 and one from TFTestkits.com.
Vacuuming to waste without killing the algae will not work. You need to have proper chemistry and at this point you need to use a procedure we call SLAM to kill the algae. After certain things are met then the pool is officially ready to say it's algae free. Once all the algea is dead, you will filter and either clean the filter or backwash (doesn't sound like you can do that.
