Vacuum question..may be a dumb one..

So we have an intex sand filter pump. When we hook the manual vacuum hose up, it suctions and picks up the debris as it should. However, the jet continues working, shooting the water out like normal- not as strong though because the vacuum is hooked up. Is this normal? Have the pump set on filter when vacuuming. On our previous pump, rhe3jet would stop once vacuum hooked up. Maybe I'm overthinking this , or is there something wrong or is the jet continuing to run perfectly normal? Help please!

That is normal for the pump and filter to work.. Was your last filter a sand filter and did you have it on backwash when you were running the vacuum? If so the water would have gone out the backwash port and not back into the pool..
