UV/Ozone - Wish I Would Have Known

I got hosed in a similar fashion when the PB couldn't get the equipment I wanted so I bought it myself. If wasn't itemized and he removed his cost, but not what it would have cost me had he installed his equipment He needed XXX of profit on the job and basically added it somewhere else, so I didn't see what I expected to see come off the estimate.

If it was signed in a contract, curious as to how you can expect to have things changed? Like, if you buy a car and it has a manual transmission and then all of a sudden, you want an automatic, you'll get what you want but you'll have to pay for all the changes no? IE; they'll take it out, charge you additional labor and have you pay more in the end anyways, ideal to get it out but I would not expect getting a full refund on anything already installed.

Be interesting in seeing the fallout/end.

Well, I just found out. Got everything I wanted. They are removing the items we don't want, upgrading the SWG, and we are upgrading to the screen logic bundle. At the end of it all, with labor, I am getting a credit of $177. Also, all the knowledge I gained here paid off, because the pool company owner called and we talked for about 30 minutes. We went over everything, and in the end he actually said, "man, you really did your research. Are you available for hire after we get your pool done?" I kid you not 🤣

That's terrific. They must really want to keep you happy and keep the relationship going. Kudos on picking a good company and making it happen!

Ps - if you missed it read the plaster startup guide and also ask your Pb for the specific plaster startup method

This is one areas where a little investment in time and effort the next 30 days pays years of dividends

I wish i knew at startup what i know now — i was hood as brushing 2x a day and that was about it

I think that these pool companies that build just expect that new pool owners won't do any research at all, and have no idea what they really need and don't need. When they come across someone that takes the time to learn and research and question them, then they realize they probably won't get to upset, etc. They were very nice about it, and the owner of the company commended me on the knowledge I already had as a new pool owner. That's 100% due to this group of people. This community is an invaluable resource. I am looking forward to continuing to be a member and a supporter of this community.

When we were looking to have a pool installed (2003) we didn’t know any better and relied on builders to tell us what we needed. Fortunately, the builder we chose strongly recommended a SWCG (rated 2X pool capacity) and an oversized filter. He emphasized what he recommended would reduce time spent on maintenance. So I guess we got lucky to choose a builder that really did care about doing right by their customers.

I would like to think that the industry gets brushed by a bad rap too broadly and that many truly do want happy customers.

For new pool owners there is sort of a lemming effect of “ask everyone you know who has a pool” rather than taking the time to research in depth… so myths and gimmicks perpetuate themselves

Kudos to @LSU for taking the time to research and to be willing to pull an 11th hour switch…

+100. For every crummy PB there are 9 Karens. Many PBs were made to be crummy by hers truly.

Dude that is awesome, so happy for you that you avoided some unnecessary equipment and obtained the right stuff. Also kudos to the builder for doing the right thing! Gives me hope there are people that still want to do the right thing!!

Or the PB is really scared of the crazy cajun from LSU.
