UV/Ozone - Wish I Would Have Known

You want IntelliCenter (with load center and built in SWCG transformer). Ask for it by name. :)
I emailed the salesman asking about that just now. Can you give me some more insight on that (reasons why, etc) so I can be a bit more educated on it?

Make sure you note (or take pictures) of your water meter before and after filling so you can measure the volume of your pool.

What startup are you (and your PB) using?

We are having 4 18-wheelers bring in water because we have hard water out here. We are on city water, but it comes from a well. I am in the process of purchasing and having installed, a dual tank water softener from Kinetico for the auto fill line from my city water connection. I will have to keep a good eye on my CH. The pool should be 22,000 gallons and the spa is 325. I believe I paid for 24,000 gallons total to be delivered. As far as startup, I talked to the site manager for the PB. It sounds like sequestrant, liquid chlorine, and muriatic acid. That's all I have gotten from him so far.

This is what is out there currently. Early pics when they first installed it. The PB is calling what I am getting a screen logic bundle. So I have asked what exactly that is. More than likely it's probably not going to be what you are talking about 🤣

Screen Logic is what makes the Easy Touch (brown box) connect to the internet since it was created before being able to control your pool with your phone was really a thing.

The Intellicenter is essentially the updated version of the Easy Touch with wifi built in, touch screen, and software updates. Similar capabilities just a product that has been launched in the last 5 years, vs 20+ years for the Easy Touch.

Probably also worth noting that Pentair is officially phasing out all automation systems but the IntelliCenter. I can't find the thread right now but one of the industry folks that frequent the forum posted it.

Lol, well that's concerning now that I am so close to the end here. I'm emailing the salesman now and asking some questions

IntelliCenter is the latest automation available from Pentair. EasyTouch is the previous generation of automation. It makes no sense to put obsolete equipment in a new pool build. IntelliCenter will give you a touch screen on the control panel as well as control through a phone/tablet/computer with the IntelliCenter app.

We are having 4 18-wheelers bring in water because we have hard water out here.
The trucks might have meters on their pumps, so you can add it all together and calculate your volume.

I will have to keep a good eye on my CH.
What's the TA and CH of your normal fill water (without the softener)?

As far as startup, I talked to the site manager for the PB. It sounds like sequestrant, liquid chlorine, and muriatic acid. That's all I have gotten from him so far.
What brand and type of plaster are you getting?

More than likely it's probably not going to be what you are talking about
They installed EasyTouch. You want IntelliCenter if possible.

Yeah, I just called the salesman. I don't think he was real happy with me. I asked him that hard question, why are you giving me last Gen tech when there's something better? His answer was cost. I told him, "I never gave you a hard number we wouldn't go past for what we said we wanted". He had no answer for that. So now water is coming tomorrow and I told him I want the Easytouch upgraded to the Intellicenter. I expressed that I was disappointed that they would put in something that wasn't the latest automation technology. It's all very frustrating, especially at the very end here when I am trying to coordinate all this to coincide with water delivery and dealing with the other stuff they are replacing on the pad....which is everything now except the pump.

Sorry you are having to deal with that. It seems like most pool builders get comfortable with a setup and just want to stick with that for the next 20 years even if there is new technology available. The notable exception is when they get incentives for things like Ozone, UV, minerals, etc. as you unfortunately know.

On the bright side, your PB has been very impressive in their responses so far. Most will come up with some off the wall excuse or just tell people it is too late to change.

For what its worth, IMO if the PB does not change this automation out, you can still get very similar functionality with the Easy Touch + Screen Logic. Its not as shiny and new like the Intellicenter, but not the end of the world and not as important as your other upgrades you did on the SWCG.

The screen logic bundle is what they are trying to sell me now. I will just ask them to take that off, take that cost and apply it to the upgrade to the intellicenter.

What matters is your happiness. Full stop.

His answer was cost.
The price difference between the two systems is negligible.

I am trying to coordinate all this to coincide with water delivery
You don't need automation on day one. Your pump will work fine in standalone mode.

stuff they are replacing on the pad....which is everything now except the pump.
The good news is your pump, filter, and SWCG are excellent. Replace the EasyTouch with IntelliCenter and you're looking great.

Thanks, I appreciate the support. This salesman is not the easiest to deal with. Very dry. He seems unhappy with life, which makes him a bit difficult to try and talk to.

Most have one goal. And it's not to help you. 🤷‍♂️

I'm sure most are happy when achieving their goal also helps you, but you're thought #2.
He seems unhappy with life, which makes him a bit difficult to try and talk to.
That's a whole 'nother animal to deal with. Lol.

Pentair Intellicenter, C&C filter, large SWG, VS pump is an excellent setup not only for control and cost, but running the pool the way you want and making adjustments. I have the same and it’s just purring along.

I made them put in Intellicenter too as I figured newer tech wouldn’t be so old in 15-20 years as 20 year old tech would be.

If you can do it, run an outdoor Ethernet cable from your house to the Intellicenter for a hardwired connection (it has a jack). It’s so much more stable than WiFi. If you do WiFi - someone can advise on the best WiFi setup.

PS you can’t use SWG for first 30 days anyway as you can’t put salt in pool. So running pump manually with liquid chlorine while they redo your pad isn’t end of the world. Just something to think about …

Okay, quick question, and then an update on the Easytouch 4 / Intellicenter update!

Is this the correct app for the IntelliCenter?Screenshot_20230720_104103_Google Play Store.jpg

I did that as well for my Jandy system. Ethernet connection is the way to go!!
