Look for a cellulose fiber alternative to DE, FiberClear, ZeoFiber, etc... Might be more prevalent on your side of the Atlantic.
 
Did you remember to "rinse" after you backwashed or did you just return straight to filter?

I have used Fiber Clear in my sand filter for the first time this season and I am pleased with the results, I ordered it on Amazon. I also have skimmer socks and my vac goes through my skimmer and I notice that also helps with the smaller debris.

As a testimony to the Best Practices shared here on TFP, my high school aged daughter had a friend over yesterday and as the friend was walking by she could see through our fence and asked "Why did you guys drain your pool?".
 
Yep I did rinse after the backwash but again I think I didn't do it for long enough.

i adjusted pH down to 7.6 yesterday.
Readings at 10pm were:
FC 7
CC 0

Readings this morning at 5:45am were:
FC 6.5
CC 0

Pool looks better, not sure if still a little cloudy or just me being a little paranoid.

Haha I know what you mean, I still look out at my pool with that little voice inside taunting me that some how overnight it all went south on me... Thankfully, that has not been the case and it is bluer and clearer than ever!
