I've had this pool/spa for 18 years and have looked at getting a chlorine generator a few times. I finally did it, and I'm almost done with the install: Intellicenter with IC40 and 2 valve controllers.

I'm not sure the last time I drained my pool but it's been well over 5 years, so it's almost drained and I'm getting ready to powerwash and refill - I have sixteen 40# bags of pool salt at the ready!

I got a new test kit and have been reading up on pool chemistry, when it was chlorine tabs I'd have to add ~10 pounds of soda ash per year to increase the PH but that's about it.

Welcome to the forum!

Not any more. The trichlor was very acidic so that drove your pH and TA lower.

Now you may need some muriatic acid at times to keep the pH in the 7's.
