Congratulations on your pool upgrade decision!!! Checking out the different manufacturers, models, and features in person is a great idea if you are lucky enough to have a showroom near you. You may also be able to kick some tires at a springtime Home Show in your area.
How long do you think you will have the pool? Get something with resin or aluminum stabilizers and top rails if you expect to keep it for a long time. Steel stabilizers and top rails will eventually rust. Good drainage will help everything last longer.
Will you put it on flat ground or do you want to sink it in the earth a little bit? Look for a pool that can be buried a bit if your backyard demands it. There are a few manufacturers making above-ground pools (and/or semi-inground pools) with structurally insulated foam panel walls that can be buried quite a bit - and they look great!
Will you build a deck right up to the top of the pool? Be sure the top rails and top caps are easily removable for servicing it (replacing the liner) or get a bead hanger and beaded liner so you won't have to remove anything when replacing the liner.
I personally prefer cartridge filters for a variety of reasons (there are no fussy multiport valves and they are easier to winterize in cold climates). And consider a variable-speed pump if your electric rates are high.
Enjoy shopping, and good luck with your new backyard oasis!
