I hope to upgrade from 15ft summer wave pool next year to 18-21 hard sided pool with sand or saltwater filter. Any suggestion for brands and/or online sites? Should I find a showroom first and look around?

Congratulations on your pool upgrade decision!!! Checking out the different manufacturers, models, and features in person is a great idea if you are lucky enough to have a showroom near you. You may also be able to kick some tires at a springtime Home Show in your area.

How long do you think you will have the pool? Get something with resin or aluminum stabilizers and top rails if you expect to keep it for a long time. Steel stabilizers and top rails will eventually rust. Good drainage will help everything last longer.

Will you put it on flat ground or do you want to sink it in the earth a little bit? Look for a pool that can be buried a bit if your backyard demands it. There are a few manufacturers making above-ground pools (and/or semi-inground pools) with structurally insulated foam panel walls that can be buried quite a bit - and they look great!

Will you build a deck right up to the top of the pool? Be sure the top rails and top caps are easily removable for servicing it (replacing the liner) or get a bead hanger and beaded liner so you won't have to remove anything when replacing the liner.

I personally prefer cartridge filters for a variety of reasons (there are no fussy multiport valves and they are easier to winterize in cold climates). And consider a variable-speed pump if your electric rates are high.

Enjoy shopping, and good luck with your new backyard oasis!

I'd probably go with a saltwater aurora if i was getting one. It's resin wall makes it 25% more than the steel wall pools, but the others will all fall to rust. The Aurora on the other hand will outlive us all.

Or look at the pools with slats instead of a one piece wall, those are absolute tanks.

Mine was half buried and the parts that came out of the dirt looked brand new. Aquasport is one manufacturer of these style.

This part was buried for 17 years.

It was all plenty dirty but no rust.

At one point in frustration of how much it was fighting me to take it down, with power tools mind you, I started stabbing it with a crowbar trying to punch a hole through it. I'm a big dude and I was 'venting', so it took quite a beating. But it laughed at that too and I barely scratched it.

+1 to that! Be careful if you get tempted to purchase a used above-ground pool. Do a little due diligence, since parts availability can be sketchy for some models, as a LOT of the manufacturers have gone out of business in the past 10-ish years and the parts are not universal.

As @Newdude said, the models with the aluminum slat walls will outlast us all!

I can't speak about online purchases but it seems that people have been extremely happy with the pool that @Newdude mentioned. We bought our pool around this time in 2022 at a local shop and got what I think is a good deal due to end of summer prices. Not all pools are sold as "salt water friendly" so if that's something you're interested in make sure to ask if it is, we went to 2 dealers by us and one didn't sell anything that's salt water friendly and said adding a SWG would void the warranty. We had a Vogue pool for 20 years and it held up OK IMO, we are into our 2nd year with this pool and so far so good. I would suggest getting a 52 or 54 inch high pool if the cost is not too much more, ours is 52 and going to 54 would have been another $1,000 and it wasn't worth it IMO.

Make sure you know the codes for your area when it comes to hard sided pools. I had the Vogue installed under the codes for then and 2022 codes were a little different. My neighbor has an Intex pool and basically put it up and plugged it in with an extension cord; mine had to go through all the township inspections.
