Uneven Baja shelf?

Hello,

Purchased a home and with it came a pool we needed to refinish. Too advantage of emptying the pool to demo a bench and add a Baja shelf. Well, it's done but the shelf looks uneven to me. I thought it should extend more vertically towards the pool bottom instead of sloping so much. It also doesn't seem to be a smooth curve/border. Finally, when I step on it I can feel an undulating area. I am asking to have this all fixed but hoping to have more opinions in case I'm being unreasonable.

Also, had a new LED pool light installed and the trim isn't flush to the wall.Is that ok?

I do see where it does not look as "rounded" where the shelf curves to the wall.

To tell the truth these are things I would have been checking for when it was still gunite as that is the base for the plaster. The plaster is not that thick that it can overcome these kinds of things. I THINK they will have to chip all of the plaster off and do some work with gunite to "fix" it IF they are willing.

Light trim ring-I WOULD have them fix that. That is going to be a good hiding area for algae and such.

This would bother me too. My opinion, which is worth only $.02 is, that is a pitiful edge! I think I might understand the "extend more vertically towards the pool bottom", because it looks like it doesn't go straight down but 'kick's out' with a slope. I would definitely be hitting my heel on that getting in while in a hurry! Overall sloppy work. So sorry!

Thank you for the replies. I did mention the issue to the builder once the shotcrete went in. He told me the wall needed to slope for the skimmer but I told him I didn't think it was right. He told he would even it out some if I wanted and not to worry that it would look good with the pebble in. I understand it may be a lot of work to fix but if this is really substandard work then I would think it is their duty to make it right.

My opinion is it is within the range of reasonableness. Would it bother me? Maybe until I sat on my pool float. Would I have them try to fix it? No. The fixes are likely to look worse - think pebble not matching well, rebar being exposed close to the surface, etc.

These just aren't big issues in my mind and I'd look past them and enjoy a Diet Coke. If ever a guest mentioned the slope of that wall, I'd immediately hold the pool gate open for their departure.

True bmoreswim! It could open up a whole can-of-worms if the repair is worse! I would still complain and maybe they can take some money off the last draw? At least you can always do your online reviews and include these pictures. Let others decide if they want to use the contractor.
