Hello,
Went on vacation and power went out turning my pump off for a week and the cover blew in from some strong storms which gave me an algae outbreak when I got home.
I have a round 6000 gallon cheap pool with upgraded sand filter. From the research here I knew I had to SLAM. I didn't have the proper test kit to test for high levels of chlorine and didn't want to wait for the TF-100 kit I order to come in so I started the SLAM process anyway. I think I put in way too much chlorine of the past 4-5 days and now that I have the TF-100 Kit I attempted to test the chlorine level and gave up at 300 drops and the sample was not pink, but still not clear. It was more cloudy.
Is it possible my chlorine level is that high? My water has turned a cloudy blue and is slowly clearing. No visible signs of any algae whatsoever. I was going to replace some of the water to lower the levels. My pool only gets about 2 hours of direct sunlight due to tree cover. When I started the SLAM my CYA was at or below 30. During the SLAM I checked it and got a CYA of less than 30 so I added some stabilizer and haven't re-checked it yet.
Thanks for any suggestions.
