Type of Salt for Intex SWG CG-28667

Hello Everyone,

I am getting ready for this weekend when I build my Intex 14x42 Ultra Frame AG pool. I purchased a sand filter and the SWG from Intex to match my pool. Most of the posts in the forum are old in regards to this question. Can anyone recommend a salt brand to use for my pool.

You can use any salt. Just look for something with very high purity. Some people use water softener salt as it's a little cheaper, but it's bigger, so it takes longer to dissolve. I personally use whatever brand of pool salt Costco sells, because it's half the price of the pool $tore and I brush it around the shallow end to dissolve it. I'm far to impatient to wait for the softener salt to dissolve.

The best thing to use to raise the salt level is water softener salt. Look for salt that is 99.4% pure or better and doesn't have any rust inhibitor or other additives. The best choices include Diamond Crystal® Solar Salt Extra Coarse Crystals in blue bags, Morton® White Crystal® Water Softener Salt in blue bags, or Diamond Crystal® Sun Gems® Crystals Water Softener Salt in yellow bags.

Water softener salt pellets will also work. Pellets dissolve more slowly, but still dissolve quickly enough to be fine. Pool salt is also fine to use, though it tends to be much more expensive. Potassium chloride will also work, but you need 28% more of it and it is more expensive. Avoid table salt, rock salt, and deicing salt.

Salt can simply be dumped into the pool. Spread it around a bit with a brush so there aren't any large piles, and leave the pump running for 24 hours after adding salt. If you have a SWG, it should be turned off while you are adding salt and for the next 24 hours.​

See, that's what I've read, but water softener salt is exactly 4 cents per 20kg cheaper than pool salt. (unless you buy it at the pool store I guess).

Thank you all for the recommendation. I can relax some now. I am going to go with Richard320 Morton salt recommendation. Even though that I am also a member of Costco. I'll check them out as well.

Diamond Crystal water softener salt is $1.42 less per 40# bag at Home Depot vs the Diamond Crystal Pool salt.

I call myself thrifty, my wife, she calls it cheap ......
