Trying to raise pH

I just checked the FC level again and it's down to 28

That was fast!

Should I put in any more today per instructions (not less than twice per day) to get it back up to 31 and maintain that today. Re check in the morning and take it from there per the instructions?

Sorry to get so intense about this, I want to get it right as we are leaving for a week starting next Wednesday and I was hoping to get the pool under control by then :)

Yep. get it above shock level. I'll bet you see some improvement now after that wallop!

Day 5 of shock process: (my husband thinks I'm a genius :), little does he know.....)

I have been holding the chlorine levels to 31.5 - 33. Yesterday only had to add once. Overnight ppm loss was .5ppm

Brushing every day, backwashing (& rinsing) morning & evening and getting lots of blue gunk out. Clears faster after each backwash.

Pool looks AMAZING!!! Not completely clear, still a bit "milky", but not a sign of algae. The little glass jar on the side of the filter is crystal clear and I have never known it to be anything but green!

My questions are: 1: what is the process after shocking is complete? Trying to get a jump on understanding that before I leave for out of town Wednesday.

2: what do I do to maintain the pool for 8 days while away. I have someone who is looking after my dog and she is ok with the pool
but don't I want to confuse her. (She was used to no testing, dumping a bag of shock and algaecide once a week). Can she just do the basic test to keep
the chlorine & the pH correct until we get home?

Good work! Don't stop shocking until you meet all three criteria. If it's not clear, don't stop yet.

When you are done shocking, let the FC drift down to maintenance levels. Remember the minimum FC is a hard floor, don't ever let it get below that. Test FC daily and add enought bleach to bring your FC to the upper area of the range so that as you lose FC to sun and bather load, it never goes below the minimum.

As for vacation, how long until the trip? If you have someone that's willing to put bleach in for you, they really don't need to test. You should know by then about how much FC you need every day, and you can have that person just put in a set amount every day/other day. Then when you return you can run a full set of tests and adjust as needed.

I'm leaving this coming Wednesday. I'm concerned that if it's not clear by then I will have to start all over :( Do you have any advice for that scenario?

Thanks again!
