TruClear SWCG with iAqualink

A SWCG is prepaying your Chlorine upfront - for the next 4-7 years (depending on use).
WIth a Jandy ePump, you must have some automation to control that. If not let us know, and maybe there are other options

I converted to a SWCG and since I had Jandy AquaLink automation, I purchased the Jandy 1400 kit - see link Jandy AquaPure Complete System with 14 Blade Cell PLC1400
That will cost about $2000. I installed it myself (plumbing and electrical) but would estimate another $500 if someone did it for you. A good handyman could do it if he understands about plumbing and electrical. Polytec is an authorized seller of Jandy which got warranty updated.

Your pool is about the same size of mine - the Model 1400 is rated to 40k gals which is perfect. I run my pump 23 hrs a day and my SWCG is always putting out a little chlorine consistently. I have left for 10-14 days with no issues - however, since I do not have autofill, I did have a neighbor check my water level every 5 days or so when I was away in heat of the summer.

Since you're also a Jandy owner maybe you can help me out with this related issue.

We also have all Jandy equipment including iAqualinik. We recently added the Jandy 1400 SWG, but Im not seeing how it ties into iaqualink. Tried googling and didnt get much in return on answers on how you utilize the SWG in iaqualink. Is there something Im missing? Hows does the SWG interact with iAqualink?

There are 2 connections that are needed.
First is power - the SWCG transformer must connect to the pump/filter relay.
The second is the RS485 wire connection. One end connects to the SWCG board and the other end connects to the RED connector on the main iAqualink board. Once this is done, then the SWCG will show up under the AquaPure icon on the iAqualink software. Ensure all power is turned off to the AquaLink system when making connections.

The RS485 wire is the same that connects your antenna to the main iAqualink board. In fact, that antenna wire is about 15ft, so I just cut a piece of that and used it to connect my SWCG to the RED connector

Open up your iAqualink box and take a picture. Also, is your SWCG board in the same cabinet of the main AquaLink system or is it in a separate cabinet? My SWCG transformer and board is in a separate cabinet.
My AquaPure SWCG cabinet is above my AquaLink cabinet.

Oops, I guess I got the names mixed up in my head. I could've sworn we discussed a Aquapure but what's done is done now. How does the TruClear system compare to the Aquapure? Better? Worse? Sidegrade? Am I losing any functionality? Thank you for the help so far!

The TruClear is Jandy's entry level "value" SWG. Lower cost, lower quality. Keep your eye out for leaks in the cell developing.

TruClear does not measure and display salinity like Aquapure does.

What about average lifetime? Should I expect less hours out of the cell? Or should that stay about the same?

You paid less for the Truclear and will probably get less life from the cell.

The Aquapure cell is larger and has larger plates then the TruClear.

You got all the instructions from Allen - the TruClear requires the RS485 cable.
Open up the cabinet of the AquaLink cabinet and remove the large face plate to show the RED Connectors. See my example below. We need to know how many Red Connectors are on your board and what is connected to them.
This RS485 cable must connect the TruClear board to the main Aqualink board for the system to control the SWCG.

The TruClear is known for premature failure. Sometimes in the first season. I wish you had asked us for advice first we always recommend not getting the TruClear.

Here's the manual. Pretty clear wiring diagram on Page 9. Also make sure the voltage setting matches your system.

The nominal life of the cell is 8000 hours. That's not in the manual. I found it in another Jandy document. Can't locate it just now.

And it's actual hours of generation, which is percent setting X hours per day X number of days. So for example at full blast 24 hours/day, it's only 333 days. But if you run the cell 12 hours a day at 50%, the 8000 hours is 8000 / (0.50 * 12) = 1333 days. Of course those are ideal numbers. The general opinion seems to be they last 2 to 4 years. And this particular cell is subject to corrosion problems that can shorten the life further.

Yea I definitely should have looked here before pulling the trigger.

To be totally honest after following the initial instructions here my pool maintenance has been so braindead easy I forgot to even check these forums for well over a year or more. Gonna ride this SWG til the wheels fall off, and at that point I'll DEFINITELY be back to check out my options for the future

Can you add that to your sigline?

So did you connect the RS485 cable and now able to operate the SWCG from the AquaLink software?

You may have good success with the TruClear, just take care of your water chemistry and it may work out. I have a relative with a TruClear system and has been fine for over a year and they keep their pool open year round.

Been dealing with all this gross drizzly rain for about 5 days here near the coast. It's on my to do list for next time we get some better weather. Thanks for all your help so far, I'm really glad I asked my questions or I'd have spent even longer not even realizing I had a different SWG installed than I thought!

Ok, got the cable all hooked up. What kind of interaction does this model have with Aqualink? I only see anything when I go to 'Web' and the click on Status.

Is that an accurate Salt PPM reading? Or just a default?

Cool! Yes, it is what the SWG is reading. Do you see the settings under "menu" and "Set AquaPure" screen?
