Trouble with pumps burning out

I’ve owned intex pools for about 10 years now. All above ground. Love them! I’ve had the 18’ x 48” for about 4 years. No issues at all except I’m getting older and they take some work in the spring and fall. Until this last one. My last one was hit by a tree limb and had holes in it so I bought a new one 2017 I think. It has two hoses out and one in. I put my old pump on it. It went out. Put the new one on that came with pool. Now that one burned out. It runs but there is no suction at all. For the first time I’m unable to clear the water. Had a fall last year so I’m trying to rehab but keep having issues with suction for cleaning and now another pump? In MN pool season is short. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Nancy
 
Are you able to get a new pump? The intex sand filter combos are good. The cartridge filters are kinda junk. You need a pump/filter. In the meantime, use your brush to mix the water when you put your bleach in.

Check your local craigslist/offerup/marketplace. There may be some for sale.

Water was getting to the pumps?
If I remember correctly, the intex cartridge filters don't "suction" the water in (to the pump, it's gravity fed) as much as push it out the return to the pool
 
In relation to your other post on your three year old thread about the dirty pool... I'm super confused. How do you know your pump isn't working if there's no water in your pool? Or is there water in your pool?

Do I need a stronger pump too? Great idea. I’ve never tried a sand pump. Thanks!

It was but there wss a lot of air in the lines. That whole dual set up is really heavy. I didn’t know it wasn’t a pump. That explains a lot. So when I raise the hoses up to keep bubbles out I’m taking away suction. That solves a mystery! Thank you!

If the pump is pushing the water out, it must be making some sort of suction from the supply side. The two supply inlets in my pool are higher than the pump but the tubing is lower. I have my pump attached to a stand I built. It cant be gravity fed or the water would stop in the lowest part of the tube. I havent had any issues with my pump and my pool is crystal clear.

Intex has never provided a properly sized filter/pump. Many people upgrade. Pools are going on sale right now, you might be able to find a good deal on clearance on a brand new pool. But it still won't be the best pump/filter.

In fact, it's not just Intex providing inadequate pumps/filters. It's all the brands of these seasonal pools doing it. No need to single Intex out for this.
 
That’s helpful. Thank you. My old one with just one hole in and out of the piol worked great! It wasn’t even that bad the last couple of years. It’s this year. But then I’ve had some health issues this year and haven’t been out here as much. Could just be me!

Oh thanks! Current pic. Have to try to climb in and get leaves out is all. I have found that walking in a circle around the inside of the pool is not only good exercise but it moves everything to the middle of the pool so you can easily scoop it up!

I do have one. I JUST broke it when cleaning because I have the patience of a two year old at times. Broken toes are making me crabby. My grandkids were thrilled at how well the “circling” worked! So I need to bring it in and fix it but I’m getting no suction so it wasn’t skimming well anyway. I’m thinking that I have to turn off the pump and close down the hoses empty the water out of them and then open the intake let it fill up and open the out house turn on the pump and hopefully that will fix it. Right?

So are you thinking my pump isn’t working right? I’ve gone through two so I hesitate to buy another but I’m not getting any usage out of my pool when it’s not clean so I’ll do what i need to. Few weeks left to the season at best
 
I always had a problem with air in the lines with the cartridge filters. I kinda hate them and would never use them again.

A small sand filter/pump combo might be your best choice for that pool. Constantly buying new pumps doesn't save you much money, therefore if you are able to, an upgraded pump will work very well.
