Trouble w/ pH and CYA level recommendation

One / Two :) questions :
1. If I start SLAM tonight, when can I realistically swim?
2. When left unattended (3wks, only SWCG running), what is the likelihood that I will need to SLAM again when i get back.

Thanks :)
  1. When the FC is within the range on the FC/CYA Levels chart foryour CYA (and the you can see the bottom)
  2. Depends on how balanced the pool is when you leave ;)

You increase your CYA to 70 by adding stabilizer. Use PoolMath to calculate the amount.

PoolMath says to generate 3 ppm of CL your T-15 cell running 12 hours a day needs to run at 90%. So you need to run your pump longer or your cell % higher to generate the needed FC. A typical pool needs 2-4 ppm a day.

Between too low CYA and too little CL generation by your SWG it is not surprising your FC is dropping.
AJ you had noted in an earlier post that their cell would have to run at 90% 12 hours a day to generate 3 ppm. So, while away without monitoring and testing, wouldn’t it be safer to set to 100%?

There is a difference between saying to up your SWG by 10% and just set the SWG to 100%.

We don't know if the OP adjusted the SWG % or the pump runtime or some combination of both based on my previous post. So we don't know what the starting SWG setting are to up the SWG FC output.

I haven't adjusted the runtime. Seeing that I was losing FC, I had increased the SWCG level from 40% to 60% on the Aquarite before I had posted on the forum.

Oh, btw, the test I ran last night didn't cause much loss of FC, which seems to suggest I don't have much organic matter attacking the FC, concluding that it must mostly be sunshine and lack of CYA. Still not sure if that explains the not-so-clear water in the pool (though I can still see bottom, re: splashpad)

The 3ppm comment : That is based on the assumption that I am losing 3ppm everyday that I need to generate everyday. I thought the comment was initially made to make "bring the levels up". And once up there, I need to only generate enough to counter the breakdown, which will probably be a lot less than 3ppm (JUST A HUGE GUESS ON MY PART)

so finally, here are the numbers from 2006C :
FC : 5.5
pH : 7.7
TA : 130
CH : 170
CYA < 30 (2006C cannot measure it)

I started with thread with some numbers (especially pH that we could not lower - which in later conversation we decided wasn't that critical, at least for now) and the fact we had cloudy water. I have a feeling our assessment of 'cloudy' is a bit too harsh. I have not done nothing to do pool recently except raising the salt level from 2800 to 3200 and increase the SWG level to 60%. Water is not bad at all (maybe we are getting used to it). We could always see the bottom at the deep end. so i have a feeling we have something that is 'steady'.

Feels like the only i would want to do is increase CYA to 70 and then adjust my SWG level lower such that I can maintain FC level of 5.

I would increase your CYA to 60-70 and run your SWG at least a week before making any changes to the %. Your FC will likely change once the CYA is protecting it.

Your pool plaster or liner?
