Must you always mortar and waterproof the skimmer waterline with the rest of the waterline when installing travertine tiles and or glass tiles?

The tile and grout provide a waterproof barrier so you don't lose water around the skimmer, if that is what you are asking.

Thanks for the quick reply. Clarification, you don’t see the waterline surface prepped with mortar and waterproofing inside the skimmer like the rest of the waterline. The question is should it be prepped the same as the rest of the waterline before adding tile? My research says yes.

There is no reason the skimmer mouth should be treated any differently then the rest of the waterline.
