To drain or not to drain? That is the question.

Hesperia California
So its my first year w my agp. Testing only w mt 6 way hth. Water has been crystal clear all summer w stabilizer and bleach. I live in southern California. My husband thinks that its best to start w fresh clean water next season since it was only about 50 bucks to fill. I definitely dont want to take it down. Not sure if i can slam let alone open with my test kit. Im also scared that the pool will be green when i open and dont want to add a bunch of chemicals to open let alone the hassel. I was thinking i could drain pool half way. Remove equipment, then next season drain completely and start over. Water would be used to water 3 large trees so will not be waisted. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I have not purchased a pool cover yet. We sometimes get 1 or 2 snow days. Very little rain since i live in the high desert. Thanks?

Thank you yes I read that article I guess my real question is will I be able to close and open my pool with my 6-way HTH tester and not have to purchase the more expensive one. I mean how would I slap the pool with my tester is there a formula to figure out how much bleach to slap with

The cost of a proper test kit is not even within the noise of what you spend on a pool over the year.

Get yourself a proper test kit -- It will safe you more money than you spent on it in a year.

Take care.

Ok, you can get the TF-50 ($50) which is a lot less than the Tf-100 ($70) since you already have a way to test pH. You can also get the K-2006 About (about $56 on amazon), but you need a way to test CL and CYA that is more reliable than what you have now.
