This is how to buy salt

Last time I only needed 10 bags so I strapped 2 in each seat of the car like kids and tossed the other two in the trunk. 🤣

Bravo for finding a way that Home Depot was useful for once. The score is 174693 to 1 for those counting.

I actually got pretty close on the bags but by mistake.
Mistake 1 I thought my pool was 28000, really 22000
Mistake 2 I thought the salt bags were 50 pounds so 900 pds was 18 bags. Lol nope

Going to give it a few days but should be close to 3800

Last time I drug 6 bags at a time to my car and made 2 or 3 trips. Sore back and salt in my trunk.
This time paid Homedepot $35 and had 18 bags delivered on a pallet:)
I lugged 10 bags today wasn’t too bad , at Home Depot they had them literally next to where the contractors park

what do you buy? I bought Morton blue bag natural crystals, for my water softener I buy the yellow bag pellets

I got the diamond brite water softener ones, also blue. Any of them work and the water softener ones are $3(?) Cheaper a bag. But. If a pallet of any kind was in front of me anywhere while doing something else, i took them as a $17 savings wasn't worth going to another store across town specifically for that.

Whatever you buy, make sure it says 100% and/or pure. Even if you bought it last time. This goes for anything you are adding. Manufacturers tend to change things and you'd find out the hard way with iron stains or foaming.

Thanks for reminding me.

We were all so happy to live a little when things opened back up, but not you. You said 'those fools can still bring me the heavy stuff'

At first it was Covid that started me using curbside service, then a back issue. Now I’m spoiled (I don’t enjoy shopping) and use curbside service for pool supplies, groceries, etc. 😁

dumb question, is this many bags for pool startup, or to use throughout the year to maintain the salt level? This is my first year with a SWG, I only bought one spare bag for the year, should I get more??

FL gets about 54 inches of rain each year. Some of that will stay unmixed as it drains/overflows, but you'll loose a good amount per season. On the plus side, the 40 lb bag is huge and will last a while with 10k gallons. Those of us needing 10+ bags are for the early spring adjustment to account for the off season rain if we closed. I needed 16 bags some springs, but only 1 or 2 throughout the season.

Once dialed in, you shouldn't need much for maintenance. Check salt level ever so often and adjust as needed. Salt doesn't really go anywhere so shouldn't need much replenishing. I'd be fine having one bag on hand, and just pick up another when you use that one up.

When I started I did the “ go for the minimum level and after a heavy rain got a low salt light. This time i set it at 3800 and hope I am good for a long time
