Third Gunite Step Chipped On Front Edge

Not sure how it happened as our pool company closed and opened and acted as if they had no idea, but the third step had a piece chipped off. (My neighbor insists they dropped some hard pump in it but I have no proof). We have someone plaster the edge and the shape/size seems good but it’s now dark grey where the rest of the pool is light grey. Was told it’s hard to match and/or nature of the beast.

Is any or all of this true and can that small area be bleached a pinch to blend in more?

Hi and sorry to be meeting this way.

It is almost impossible to match plaster when it is patched even if it is patched right after it was first plastered :(

One idea I thought of when I first read your post was trying to rub a chlorine tablet on that area. I would not over do it. as you don't want to do more harm than good. If that does not work I would not do much of anything else.

AND GURRRRRRRRRRR on the pool company that did this as we both know they are the ones that did it! We can/will teach you how to open and close your own pool as well how to take care of it using stuff you can get from Wal-mart and such! It will be MUCH cheaper than you are paying them and is oh so easy. TFP is a non-profit site that does not allow any ads and is run by volunteers that have been where most pool owners are that hire pool companies.

Thank you so much for the quick response and I did not realize I could learn to do all of this here nor that it was a non-profit and/or not solely confined to those using pool companies. I’ve had a VERY hard run as I was robbed some years ago but don’t know that I should put it all online as it might be seen by them (although, it’s quite tempting to tell the tale). I would like to confirm how to open/close my own pool as I take care of it the rest of the time with no issues. I have a few special pieces of equipment that I’m comfortable dealing with. I rely on a guy who is a friend but I’m not a priority and it’s still costing me a lot of money. I mostly have it done for me as I’m a bit confused on a few winterizing techniques and also, need a few tips re some of the fittings as I either have the wrong wrench, or am just a klutz (or both).

Here is our main link to closing a pool:

We also have several thread about the subject.

We can/will also help you open your pool.

I would love to see your equipment and learn about it.

I got caught up in a bunch of things and sadly didn't get back to this. I also sadly slid down the edge of the pool with one leg while the other stayed on the ground and am Dang lucky I didn't break anything BUT MAN did I get bruised up! So my equipment:

Triton TR100 Filter with Glass Media
Inteliflo VS Pump
Ultratemp 120 Heat pump
Ecosmarte Turbo
Intellisync
Intellichem with Acid tank (Not using Chlorine part as nonchlorine pool)
Pool Specialists 4000 automatic cover

If anything else is worth mentioning, let me know. There is a chlorinator (not sure why).

Pool is 20' x 40'

Up until this year, never had a problem (other than the busted step). Having a phosphates nightmare and have read about them here. using SeaKlear and can't seem to beat them. Have fine white dust on the pool bottom and some in here say I need to vacuum to waste (and have) but I'm told my filter should be able to handle it by some.

Ultimate goal is to learn to open/close (mostly concerned with winter cover on/off, antifreeze process and any other important measures). I've kept it clean myself for a number of years and really, only this year was a problem but the pool is sparkling clean, I just can't get the phosphates down and thus my copper to rise.
