Because the pool was just finished in November and we could not wait 'til summer
Grace, TOO TRUE!! -- we've had folks go into ~ 40 deg water when the pool was 1/2 filled - just to be able to say "I was the first one in" or "I DID go in the year it was built"
Reasons to go swimming in Dec...
I live close to the equator... what is 'winter'?
or
I live in Australia - do you think I'd be stupid enough to swim in June?
or
There is no local branch of the Polar Bear Club near me, but I want to 'share' their experience
or
I put my bob-house on too early (for those of you who don't know what a bob-house is - it's a little heated shack on a sled or wheels that you tow out onto a frozen lake to ice fish out of -- you usually tow it out onto the lake with your truck, if the ice isn't thick enough, you end up swimming * and paying a BIG charge to get the truck and bobhouse out of the water-- and a $$$ fine for polluting the water)
or
I'm a masochist
or
I've forgotten how it feels to have pneumonia, and it's nice too revisit an old friend
or
My wife says I'm hard headed and I wanted to prove that even my head isn't hard enough to break 1/4" of ice... but I was wrong
or
I needed to do my Mikvah --
or
I wanted to see if my new polar fleece boxers REALLY work
or ...
Sean, I can keep this up all night - care to give me a little more direction in which to take this?
(FWIW - I once came up with ~ 350 'Letterman-style' reasons to go to the restaurant I cooked at, all over the course of a weekend, many of them would never make it into the newspaper ad, but some that I thought couldn't, did)
Dave, I LOVE your new heater
