The husband finally let me take over and I don't want to blow it!!

Yup, that's what TH said.

Glad to hear your pump was ok. Strange how air got in there when you've been running it constantly.
BTW - I purchased a new Hayward 1 hp motor & pump for $425. Pump, motor & filter might get you close to

Yes, clean PSI would be the pressure after cleaning. Normally the pressure will go down after cleaning. Your pressure went up to 15 after cleaning?!

Yeah, I think he was trying to make me feel bad......then I remembered that it was a rebuilt motor, he blew the other one by not winterizing it correctly and it froze. Yup, I reminded him :)

Your "clean" pressure is whatever the filter reads after it is cleaned and the pumps are running. It is odd that your filter pressure was running at 10psi and now after cleaning reads 15psi. I'm wondering, after all the crud you've been nuking in the pool water if the filter cartridge material is plugged up. I'm not as familiar with the "life cycle" of a cartridge and how their age over time relates to the system pressure but it may be time for a deep cleaning of the cartridge overnight. I don't know, others will have to comment.

As for the stains, onBalance's response was superb! It is likely they are calcium scaling stains but it's hard to know and we shouldn't do anything until your SLAM is complete. We are going to need accurate pH, TA and CH test results in order to know where to go and you cannot do those tests during a SLAM.

So be patient and get through your SLAM first.

Actually that may explain the rise in pressure. Can you tell if there's more water flowing through the returns?

Tons!!

That debris could have been blocking some of the vanes in the impeller thus reducing pressure.

How long can TH hold his breath? The same kind of mess found in the light could be under the covers of the bottom drain(s?).
Hahahaha.......I'll ask him when I get home!?

I'm home now and checked the pump room for myself and yes, the psi is 15 now. What I did notice is a big difference in the basket. When I looked in it before I would see the water running thru it with bubbles, now it looks like everything is still....i can see clearly into the glass portal like there's no water rushing through it, probably what it should always have looked like.

But, when I told TH about this, he didn't laugh. I think I'm going to create a hook and brush combo for the long pole so I can clean out those drains. Can you tell me what I can expect once I take the top off? Is there a basket?

Yup. That is exactly what it should look like. Yay!

Bit by bit you are solving lots of issues!

Thank you for not laughing (or at least not laughing out loud)! Yup bit by bit......
A part of me doesn't want to get MY pool in order cuz I'll miss the comradery. I feel like I just met a bunch of best friends!

Well here is what you do......
Tell TH that you are going on strike, no more pool care until he meets your demands of (insert fictitious demand here). Let the pool turn green and cloudy. Then we can do it all over again. Hehehehehe,,,, good work on clearing your pool. Stick around, you now have become a TFPer. Your punishment is helping others that are in your old shoes get a clean pool..... You ran the gauntlet and passed...

That means that you have LOTS of people reading and talking and being your friend.

There are 293 replies in this ONE thread. All for you!

Haha, that would work if TH sees (or admits to seeing) the difference between cloudy green and sparkly blue!!
remember, he saw no difference in post #198! (Or so he said)
Glad to be a TFPer, glad to help but gotta get pass my OCLT first before I can be of help to anyone.
Speaking of OCLT......ARG!!!!! Failed again!! This time its the FC!! Lost <1.5!!! So so so close........but alas, no cigar:brickwall::grrrr:!!
Is my reasoning on this correct: the FC went down because the organisms "consumed" it in the process of being killed. Thus the lower CC? If that is correct, can you tell me why a couple of days ago the FC held at only 1.5 ppm loss during the hot sunny day and <1.0 loss at night but the CC remained 1.0 or higher? Was the FC not killing the organisms? Could cleaning the filters again and clearing the basket effect the change?
