The husband finally let me take over and I don't want to blow it!!

I did not watch the video the whole way through. I was just trying to find SOMETHING that will help TH (good one) understand what you were dealing with. LOL That will teach me to watch a video before I link to it. :oops:

You are doing all of the right things. HUGS!

Kim

Water looks much much better, lots clearer and blue. The stains seem fainter as well, but I can't tell for sure, maybe just wishful thinking cuz the husband (I'm going to legally change his first name to "The Husband" soon, "TH" from now on) says its looks the same. Oh well, I still think it looks better. Buts thats the benchmark for him, the stains. He keeps saying its all a waste (he's quit contributing $ to Clorox, says I'm on my own) and those stains will never come out. But on the bright side, he will clean out the lights today as long as there are no thunderstorms......and there are more forcasted today with flash flood warnings.

I do have a question: how long does a SLAM last? Approx? Just wondering if i'm on track.
Thank you!

Just had to jump in here, I love your sense of humor. With your attitude you'll be a pro in no time. When you know how clean your pool is, I believe you'll want to get in and enjoy (I hope you will).

Don't be too hard on us husband types, it's not ALL our fault, it's leftover DNA from the past :rolleyes:

And being a suspicious sort, I once had a teacher who would sometimes do something wrong on purpose, just to see if we were paying attention. Now,..... I would NEVER accuse Teacher Kim of that, but.... just throwing it out there :poke:

Keep up the good work and soon those stains will be gone too. :goodjob:

Ha ha, yeah I try to be patient, I just figure he sees the improvement but doesn't want to admit it. If he gets too grumpy I just give him that "wife look", you know....
But thank you all for the encouragement!! Can't tell you how much it means to me cuz this is HARD WORK!!!:sad:

Oh yeah, I just remembered that "TH" hates the smell of chlorine!! That might have something to do with it (hee hee)

I need a quick reply if possible, leaving for work in 20 min!!

@6:00 am FC=11.5, CC=1.0 added 1 1/2 jugs clorox
@7:15 am FC=17.5, CC=.5
@9:15 am FC=16, CC=.5
Should I add any more Clorox since I won't be home till after 7:30 pm??

Thanks!

Glad to see the advice here is helping.

Since you're using a lot of chlorine, I know we avoid pool stores in general but you might want to check if a local one carries HASA 12.5% liquid chlorine in reusable jugs; http://www.hasapool.com/dealer_locator_hasa.php shows a few in the Reno area. I don't know if the Reno market is similar to Sacramento, but around here 4 gallons of 12.5% comes to ~$13 after regular coupons they send and a buy-11-get-12th-free "chlorine club" card. That compares favorably to other local bleach/chlorine pricing. I paid a $6 deposit the first time for the 4 jugs + carrier; refunded if I decide to stop exchanging there.

The advantage for me is fewer bottles to lug around (because of the higher concentration), no guilt at throwing the empties away, and the HASA jugs seem to pour smoother. And the one store is the way home with parking right next to the door; I can be in and out in less time than it would take to walk through a big box parking lot. The folks at this store at least don't give me any pressure or hassle to test or buy anything else from them.

Nothing at all wrong with using bleach if that's more convenient though, just an option to look at. I have found that guests (and spouses!) are less concerned with seeing generic white bottles in a yellow crate than "What! You put BLEACH in your pool??!!! Kids, get out now!!!" :) :)

Thanks for the advise, but I guess chlorine is more expensive here in Reno. There was a $14 deposit, individual gallons are $7.99 and the 4 pack is $17.99. At 12.5% its 1 1/2 times the 8.25% clorox I buy at Sam's Club for 3/$9.47. So roughly $.50 a gallon more at Sam's. The lady who helped said the HASA was a purer product, is that so?

You did remember to take pictures, right? For sure take them of the stair area. That way you, can see the change. Sometimes it's hard to see unless you have the pics back to back.

Yes I did, but earlier it said I reached my quota and couldn't post any more. Someone told be to download to photo bucket but I don't know what that is. Could be help me?
Also, the photos have too much glare and reflection. I'm using my iphone and ipad, do you know how to cut the glare/reflection problem?

I guess I don't know how to post pics cuz i keep posting numerous photos tho I think i'm just posting one of each. Photos 1,3,6 are Sat 7/4 photos 2,4,5,7 are today. Same stains, different day.

Could someone tell me how to post pics correctly? Don't want to duplicate them again and exceed my quota. (Photo moron)

Have you worked at IDing the stains?
Kind of looks like it could be calcium scaling and that is not going to be fixed with SLAMing.
Does the surface feel rougher in those areas?

You could try putting a vitamin C tablet on the stain for a few minutes and see if they lighten. That would point to metals.

I did try the crushed Vitamin C in a sock but that was way way in the beginning and I don't remember what the outcome was. The skies are too dark with thunder clouds (had another DOWNPOUR today) so I think I'll wait till the morning.

+1 to that post!

Totally speculative statement - looks like plaster damage (etching or calcium scale) to me. Won't know for sure until water is clean and balanced and you try to ID the stains.

Good news - that all happened BEFORE you took over pool care using the awesome methods taught here at TFP. So you can blame the last guy ;)

it is easier to use "go advanced" and click preview post to see if the pictures are where you want

all done :)

You can also add pictures if you use tapatalk to access the forum on your phone. Photobucket has an app, and you can upload pictures from your phone. I'm sure imgur has the same thing.
